Someone Attempted to Trademark Bitcoin Again

Marvin Dennis of East London attempted to file a trademark claim over Bitcoin on Nov. 5th, full application seen here. This application is rather… odd though. The filing itself is, yes, for the name Bitcoin, but for usage in the chocolate and confectionery markets, according to its Listing of Goods classification. Its implications for general business and transaction usage is minimal.
There is no sign of whether or not Mr.Dennis actually intends to use the Bitcoin name for chocolate goods. There are no shops relating to chocolate or confections registered to him, and, as Coindesk reports, the “series of web domains registered to his name and address are inactive, ending on GoDaddy.com pages.”

Overall, Marvin Dennis’ web presence is lacking, and no accounts can definitively be linked between him and any business or real media presence. This already strange situation is confused by this complete lack of comment from any of the individuals or bureaus involved, leaving everyone in the dark. Will this be a stage upon which many hollow claims are made from? Perhaps. Only time will tell. The patent will be approved unless the claim is opposed before February 6th.  Until then, we watch as this man attempts to claim the Bitcoin name for… chocolate.
